Re: The Dates of Octoberfest

It's also not really that much of a clash with Expo - it looks like the main events are going to be Friday and Saturday nights, so after you've finished watching the cosplayers and engaging in GLORIOUS commerce you can run down to the Apollo for a bit of All-nighting...

Re: Worst droids in films?

I'm not sure about worse droids, but this reminds me that I need to kick Silent Running up my Lovefilm list. I've also heard that the robots are lovely, so am dialing down the expectations a chunk. There's some late 70s film with a gold man and a rubbish bin on wheels, they were a bit crap. Luckily ...

Re: AVATAR trailers are out

It looks a bit like a cross between the Starship Troopers cartoon and Oddworld. To quote a number of characters from another potentially shonky sci-fi film "I have a bad feeling about this".

There is also FilmCircle which is still around. I've swapped a couple of discs through them.

Dr Matt Smith and his new Who companion

SFX have got an article up with a piccy of the new Doctor (complete with bow tie) and his new companion: http://www.sfx.co.uk/resources/sfx/200709who.jpg Young Doctor and teenage companion? Are they going to keep along the darker notes of the more recent who or leave that to Torchwood and go more Sa...

Re: Psychoville

Ta for the reminder - they had a few ads on (which even I've seen despite not having seen much BBC telly recently) but it slipped my mind. Definitely a good start, with enough foreshadowing, creepy weirdness and beany babies to keep most people happy. Hopefully it'll keep things rolling along nicely...

I'll go fetch my virtual rope and quartering hooks...
(Bender is one of the best characters imo but has now been overused enough now that you can generally tell what's going to happen within moments of an ep starting...)

Re: Most preachy film?

I've not seen either version yet, but I've heard that Michael Haneke's 'Funny Games' may take the prize. Originally done in german and then remade pretty much shot for shot in english so that Haneke could reach his 'target market' it's meant to be a film that has a spectre of the director floating a...

Re: Total Recall movie 'to be remade'

I saw Terminator 3 in the cinema when it came out and my only comment that I've ever really made about it is that I saw it with a friend of mine who worked at CERN. When the film had finished I jokingly asked him if the particle accelerator that they all run around at one part of the movie was anyth...

Re: Batman and Robin (the movie) – not as bad as everyone made o

You are wrong. That is all I need to say :) Well, I should probably expand that a bit. I only saw it for the first time the other day, and as a fan to some extent of all the Batman movies (with the 1966 one being my favourite) I thought I'd appreciate it even if it was bad. I was wrong. It's broken ...

Re: Total Recall movie 'to be remade'

This has been bubbling under the surface for a while - from what I heard a while back it's a redo of the film. I don't have any particular problem with a new version being made, I just don't see the point. That said, it'll make money whatever, so there's the point... As for re-adapting the book, the...

Re: Drag Me To Hell

I'd watch Drag Me To Hell in the cinema - having it big and boomy on a big screen with big speakers will definitely make you jump more, which is mainly the point. I think it'll work well on DVD as well, but not as well as on the big screen. Those other three films are definitely cinema films as well...

Re: Drag Me To Hell

Raimi remains forgiven - it was rather good. Started well but slacked off on the jumpy bits as it went on and got slightly more ridiculous. Still a good slice of old school shocky horror, with a load of "look what we could have done in Evil Dead if we'd had more cash" moments. Thoroughly good fun.
