star wars space ships ..your fave?

Post by elle » Thu May 24, 2007 12:07 pm

Since it is the 30th birthday of star wars..
is there a favourite spaceship?

Star Wars1V:A New Hope MMM

Star War spaceships are design classics
with todays machine/technology equivalents

TIE FIGHTERS ..(Ford Capri)

Escape Pod.. (Mobility Scooter)

X-Wing Star fighter ..(Golf GTI )

Millenium Falcon ..(WW Caravanette)

Imperial Star Destroyer ..(Bendy Bus)

Imperial landing craft..(Ford Fiesta)

any thoughts ? :P

Here's one of my favourites, the trade federation landing ship. I find it fresh and quite unorthodox for a spaceship design. Still it feels totally belieavable.

Elle? Does this mean that I'm not the only female on this planet who has a thing for spaceship design? :D

i go to 'Alien' for my favourite spaceship designs 'Nostromo' to me is totally believable..going from hi-tech in the crew quarters to dark low in the storage area.and then thro the movies, the mining ship, wow, so many places to hide...BOO !
SS.Sulaco the ultimate design?
and Dreampod9 a submarine shape from the game Jovian Chronicles, some of the manga ships are the height of the artists imagination
spaceships ..i love them they are the carriers of my dreams..(did i say that?)
the mother ship from close encounters..just the outside, the lights and noise..enough to fire the imagination?

Crappy picture I know (what's with the monkey face?!). A nasty looking thing, a killer for sure.

You know, we're in good company, I think it was Tom Dixon or some other star designer who said he wished he had designed the Mir space station.

looks like the pic was taken of a model in a museum or at least an exhibition? praps about scary stuff?

(the Alien ship and the Alien creature all from Giger and his Necromonicon
a book seen and used by Ridley Scott ..and all scary...
the Nostromo is def an 'alien' looking ship..
H R Giger has a museum in switzerland..AND you can get inside the ship and eat off ''alien'' table etc..bit cheesie but wow..)

the design of spaceships?
it can as the camera first moves in set the tone and make a movie more interesting..and more real..
there was one in dr who the interior made sense with the living quarters..

and in American Astronaut the spaceship is messy and almost homemade scruffy LOW tech delboy stuff..which when it landed on mars..a mining planet, all the miners clapped  cos the 'astronaut had made it

The Baked bean can rocket from 'Button Moon'. Minimalistic genius! :D

I always loved Slave 1 (Boba Fett's ship) because it looked so impractical when it landed on its 'back'.

While on 'Aliens' the dropship was cool in that very realistic way. Riffing on modern helicopter gunships made it really believeable.

The bean can rocket, that was about the cutest space ship I've seen

American Astronaut looks great judging by the trailer. I've never heard about the film before, thanks for the tip!

My one and only complaint about the new version of Battlestar Galactica: the cylon raiders. From especially this viewpont they like to use... some sort of a toylike feeling? For some reason I'm not "bying them". I actually started laughing first time seeing these, the red light moving from side to side, probably because I saw the original series as a kid and the light feels kind of a clumsy reference to the past. Rest of the new series - I love it.

Aesthetic appreciation is a very subjective thing.
