Hellboy II – one of the best sequels?

Post by Heebie » Wed Jan 07, 2009 10:16 am

In this age of dragging anything vaguely popular out as long as possible, I was pleasantly surprised to see a sequel that I thought actually surpassed the original.

Let's hope they wait a few years before making Hellboy III.

I thought Hellboy 2 was pretty enough, but that there wasn't much too it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but didn't think it rocked quite as much as many. Then again, I wasn't that much of a fan of the first one.

As for Hellboy 3, with Guillermo Del Toro wrapped up in Hobbit making for the next few years I suspect we'll be waiting a while unless they farm it out to someone else.

As for best sequels, if we dismiss the normal sci-fi ones (Aliens, T2, Empire Strikes Back) then I'm at a bit of a loss. I reckon Transporter 2 was better than Transporter, but a) that's not sci-fi and b) I'm one of the special people who likes that series :)

Any ideas for sequels that should have been made but haven't been?

I would say another Highlander movie because THERE ARE NO OTHER HIGHLANDER FILMS, despite what people tell me...

I thought there was a lot to enjoy in Hellboy II despite the repetitive punching fight sequences - scenes like the troll market or the stand-off with the earth god were captivating; the clockwork army itself was cool; and they thawed out Luke Goss from cryogenic suspension (almost successfully).

Sequels they should have made: The Day After The Day After Tomorrow? Titanic 2? On The Beach 2?

oh, and why don't they do re-makes of sequels?

Already been done, the new Friday the 13th is combination of the original and several of it's sequels.
