"The Red Brain" by Donald Wandrei

Post by tracerhand » Wed Apr 23, 2008 12:07 pm

Hello all,

The 100th anniversary of Donald Wandrei's birth passed with little fanfare on Sunday. Wandrei was a key figure in early pulp science fiction publishing and writing, bringing H.P. Lovecraft to the world as well as working hard to revive the fortunes of the early shuttered pulp mag, Astounding Stories, to the point where John W. Campbell could turn it into a science fiction powerhouse.

We'll be discussing Wandrei's first short story, "The Red Brain", on Resonance FM 104.4 this coming Tuesday at 10pm, as part of an eight-part series looking at the Golden and Silver ages of S.F. You can subscribe to the podcast here - http://freakytrigger.co.uk/slugoftime

"The Red Brain" is a bizarre story of a race of brain-things, who find themselves the last surviving species in the universe after everything else is eaten by inexorable Cosmic Dust.

Has anyone here read the story? If so, what do you think of it?
