If you've not heard of Y: the Last Man, I highly recommend it to you. It's a 10 vol graphic novel written by Brian K Vaughn.

The story starts with all of MAN kind dying in an instant, leaving only one man and his monkey alive in a world of females.

Other books that BKV has written include Ex: Macina, Runaways(also highly recommend) and Pride of Baghdad.
He has also just joined the writing staff a show that happens to be called Lost.

Amazon listing ... 405&sr=8-4

I concur that this is a very good series.

I am sure that many readers will identify with Yorick, the protagonist. I read it and he seemed to know all the same things as me and endlessly quote stuff like I do. Go figure.
