We may have a problem...

Post by nutteronabus » Fri Mar 28, 2008 4:34 pm

Hello there. First post an all that.

I'm one of the people that's signed up to take part, and have just read this slightly worrying bit of news. A potential tube strike, starting on April 6th, which would naturally take us past the deadline.

Any chance of submitting films online instead if it goes ahead?

Hi

If this turns into a real strike we will do 2 things.

1) allow online submissions on Monday 7th and the physical media within the week (so we can view it but have the media to use for the cinema screening)
2) allow some extra time to encode and upload - so deadline for online submission will be 11.59PM Mon 7th

Fingers crossed we don't need to worry.

Louis

What about online submissions? I have a team put together up here in Scotland but we won't be able to storm London as planned becasue I (the editor) am filming in Glasgow on the 5th. We do have team members in London who can pick up the brief and we could produce the film here in Edinburgh but we would have to submitt electronically.

Please, please, please allow electronic submissions!!! That way the tube strike won't cause trouble down there and we can participate!!!

Thanks,

Anne

Online submissions may be possible.

I will check our FTP situtation - it is a matter of timing... this also affects the 48hour time length, should we allow an hour for travelling for people in London, therefore making online submissions earlier than physical ones? Hmm. Watch this space.

Thank you so much for considering that. We would be happy to have an hour taken off if we can participate.

Thanks for the flexible attitude.

The submitting of entries would benefit ourselves. We are based in Manchester, getting down to London is not an issue however all our kit/personnel are 'up north'.

Please, please allow the submission of entries electronically!

Also, can you just clarify something for me?

How long is the meeting expected to last? I'd assumed it would finish around 12pm (which is when I've arranged to meet my crew), but from the mailout today, I got the impression that it's literally a straight in, straight out affair. Which means I'd get very lonely for two hours in a nearby café...

Dear Nutter on a bus...

you may well be sitting around for a bit - but not alone surely, there will be lots of other filmmakers around frantically scribbling out ideas for their movies.

It will be a quick (ish) process on the day - you get a pep talk from me and then collect your random elements and leave... but I think it will be at least 10.30 before we start (much as we want to run on time ;)

Excellent. Well, either way, I'll have a load of equipment to carry to the rendezvous point. I suppose if it comes to it, I could just take my time getting there...

On a thoroughly positive note, the strike's been called off. Whey!

If the strike is off, does that mean no online submissions or will that option still be available to those outside London?

The strike is off. However, we will allow teams very outside London (not just the M25) to submit online by 1pm and then send a disc with the same film on it... any difference in the film and it will be disqualified.
