The Association for the Support of Independent Film and Video Culture organizes the 3rd OHNE KOHLE international independent video and film festival which will take place in Vienna from July 16th to July 22nd, 2006. As in previous years, it tries to present a selection of works including a contest for producers of independent films from all over the world. The aim is to honor and support the most interesting and innovative approaches in the fields of short, documentation and animation films.
During the festival there will be film showings in the Filmcasino (a cinema in the city of Vienna), workshops, talks and panel discussions held by professionals for colleagues and people interested in the subject. The events are aimed at promoting free exchange of ideas and know-how within the scene as well as providing impulses for new projects.
We are still wanting your entries until May 21th, 2006.
A pre-selection will start in February 2006 during free Open Screenings. Subsequently a professional jury decides upon the awarding of the prizes.
A new part of the program will be a special contest calling for films of less than three minutes length that have to deal with a given topic. On the occasion of this year's 150th anniversary of Sigmund Freud's birthday, the topic will be the following quote of the founder of psychoanalysis: One feels inclined to say that the intention that man should be happy is not included in the plan of Creation.
Next year there will be an additional prize for music videos. During the first OHNE KOHLE festival in 2004, which was promoted only on the internet and by word-of-mouth, more than 1000 films were sent in from 44 countries. In 2005 the number of entries increased to 1500 films coming from 50 countries.
Over the years the OHNE KOHLE film festival has established itself successfully as a platform attracting young aspiring film producers and professionals of the media sector. An annual special contest on social topics rounds off the festival. After having covered the topics Poverty (2004) and Human Rights/Human Dignity (2005), this year's festival will be dedicated to the issue of Globalization - One World - Our World?
The net profit of the 2006 festival will be used to support the Viennese project Integrationshaus.
