No more broadcast tv for me

Post by the-mental-one » Mon Oct 16, 2006 5:25 pm

ah...see battlestar galactica is still on re-runs so I'm not watching it, SG-1 I was watching now and then on the re-run but will now watch once a week as I will Atlantis. Eureka has finished the season. Medium is just starting up though...

CSI's are re-runs and I can't rewatch them as I remember them far too well.
I watch Dr Who on the first run through, will undoubtedly watch torchwood. Currently checking Robin Hood to see what I think. I don't watch Lost, Smallville are all re-runs, charmed has finished...I see a pattern here....anyway it mounts up to being about the same amount of time as you were watching tv maybe, but I don't watch all of the shows exclusively whilst doing nothing else. Sometimes I'll be on the pc or reading a book or tidying the front room etc. Multitasking with tv on as background noise.

wheras we sit down in a room set aside for watching tv and doing little else :)
We have a room with just the sofa, the tv and all the other media kit, the speakers and the DVD and CD collections!

Today is the day!!!
Shinji, the box itself looks like it has a technical fault hence the secondary issue for leaving sky.

No more broadcast tv for me

I did something a little different in that I got rid of the TV not the sky subscription.
Now everything I watch is downloaded of the net or on DVD and just watch it on my computer screen.
The legal/moral arguments about downloading TV shows aside (movies and shows released on DVD can be had pretty cheap via lovefilm etc) I now watch both more and less than before.
More because there is more available to me to choose from that just what the broadcaster in the UK want me to watch and less because theres no ads, fillers, reality tv, sport and other junk inbetween and no tv left on to attract your attention like some sort of hypnosis machine.
I haven't had a TV in 4 years.

Well done :)
Although can you get a 42" screen for a pc?
I do not miss broadcast telly at all and it feels great to also be "green" and turn off everything rather than leave it all on standby (sky insist you leave the box plugged in and on standby).
I actually read a book the other day and we now eat dinner at the dining table rather than in front of the tube!

you will save so much money when not 'on standby' with all the stuff..Shaun......
i was told that watching t.v on a p.c also incurs the BBC fee for telly.....
but that is a small screen on a p.c? Keldin.....
i listen to BBC7 a lot for the sci fi horror and comedy and turning off the stream of crap on tv does feel good i agree...
but still like tv...for the comedy...AND torchwood...(sorry)

Torchwood will be out on DVD :) Will catch it then.
You are right about the beeb, if you watch a bbc broadcast online you do indeed need a tv licence (ours is now cancelled so yet more savings)
