Attempt to ban PS2 game Rule of Rose

Post by The Editor » Fri Nov 17, 2006 11:51 am

Since posting the news of some new game releases on the main SFL site, including one from Japan called Rule of Rose, there have been attempts to have it banned in Europe. The game has attracted a lot of negative reaction from certain self-appointed protectors of public decency, these being the Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltronihttp://www.lifeinitaly.com/news/news-de ... ewsid=3614 and Europe's Justice Minister, Franco Frattini http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2207229.stm. This is a bit hypocritical, coming from a country whose national church's record of child abuse is not only widespread and shameful but also generally covered up. Or is this backlash generated by the guilt which that religion is so famous for instilling in its followers? And what about all the real violence meted out by that country's organised crime, which is then imitated in games?

IT IT an interesting slant on the ''culture'' we live in...
war... bestiality..torture etc...why only this week a ''soldier''was convicted of torture and death of a defenceless disabled man...of a 'different colour and culture''
and it goes on and on with the so called adults ...crap bullying behaviour everywhere and as tv entertainment too...

i had seen some stuff on this game..and dismissed it as a 21c sort of 'lord of the flies' with sexnstuff?

BUT bring in lesbianism and lurid colours and grown men lose their panties! is it religion that says its bad?
some yes and yes to the kiddy fiddler priests who are hidden from us...
although i think the mafia which is glamourised is a bit different ...?
it could be the fear of kids too which seems to pervade our culture...never seen so many progs on how to bring up kids..
and the inability of 'parents' to say no....that this game may hurt you...
but then kids LOVE BEING SCARED!!!

Did you actually read the full reason it was banned before having a knee jerk gamer reaction, the game had no merit beyond gruesome murder. Next to no plot, just a thin thread to link murders together, they did not have a prayer of justifying it. Compared to Manhunt 1 where at least it had a dark plot to it.

Hardly played it at all beyond level 2, as with all things, something newer and shinier came along :)

just a thought as i wander by..''manhunt''..from a geoffrey household story...''rogue male''?
written on nazis and the british establishment in the early 1940's? (clever and sharp as spun glass )

turned into mindless violence in the 2007/8's i/ll get my coat
